I get that the recommended path is to use their e2e sync (which I have purchased and am currently using), but I have two problems with it: I've installed the Working Copy method, but the problem is you have to manually commit and push and pull, which is untenable - I use both a desktop and mobile device frequently and that would be ridiculous for me. What I really want is something like the desktop git sync, but on my ios device as well. You should also consider privacy since most cloud providers will read your documents for targeted ads, Mega might be the best solution for this. The Android app "FolderSync" can push changes immediately, but it pulls every 5 minutes at best, or you can trigger it to pull manually. The desktop software will push and pull changes immediately. You'll need to install their desktop software and an app "FolderSync" on the Android or a similar one on iPhone. Use a cloud storage provider (gdrive, onedrive, dropbox, box, mega). But if you use a laptop on the go or a Work PC you might need to configure a hotspot.ī. This might not be a problem if your're always using the same home network. The second is that they need to be both on the same network. So I don't recommend turning your PC off quickly after doing some changes to a note. The first is that it takes 15-20 seconds to send the changed files to the other files. Use Syncthing on PC and on Android/iPhone and set it to watch for changes. *** = no native support for Syncthing on MacroDroid, but here's the needed info to configure itĪ. You can configure Syncthing to sync at every change (not recommended tho on a phone) or again syncing*** only at opening and closing of the Obsidian app (with MacroDroid). But I already made some extensive testing and I stand by it. In the coming weeks/months I'll migrate from Google Drive to selfhosting and Syncthing, for all my data (not only Obsidian). Can be used for a lot of things, way more than only syncing Obsidian. ** = MacroDroid is quite similar the iOS' Shortcut. * = make sure you make the Obsidian vault/folder fully synced, not only cached but with a full local sync Google Drive File Stream is now called Google Drive for Desktop Setting up the sync at opening & closing of the app solved this! Either you have way to many syncs/checks while not really necessary or if you edit on your computer(s) and on your phone while in between two syncs you might end up with data loss. Setting the sync in FolderSync every one hour or x minutes doesn't cut it for me. I trigger the sync at opening and closing of the Obsidian app with MacroDroid**. On my Android phone I am using FolderSync. You can use it accros the web.Īt the moment I sync my notes using Google Drive ( Google Drive File Stream*, already in use on my computer for a lot of stuff). Syncthing is not only to be used on the same network. Syncthing: haven't tried it (correct me if I'm wrong) because both devices need to be connected to the same network.
